One thing about sexual harassment that each and every one of us must be aware of is the fact that it is present anywhere, and that is has already been in existence for quite some time now, although there are still those who fail to acknowledge such disturbance. As what we cited earlier on in this article, sexual harassment is a form of harassment that can happen anywhere and one very good example of a place where it is most likely to occur all the time is the workplace. Yet, if we are going to compare sexual harassment in the past with sexual harassment in the present, we can actually say that a lot of things has already changed, especially in the workplace. In the past, if sexual harassment is happening in the workplace, many would just turn a blind eye on it since they do not want to get themselves involve with it, but everything has changed since people started to become aware of the law that governs sexual harassment in the workplace. Although, you can still say that education with regards to sexual harassment is still at a crucial level. Albeit the fact that there are so many of us who are familiar with the term itself, there are still those who do not have any idea about what it could mean when done in an organization. And because of this, it still remain as a challenge to stop sexual harassment from ever happening in an organization.
Talking about sexual harassment in an organization or in the workplace setting, there are two major types of them and these are the hostile work environment or the this and that (quid pro quo in Latin). When we say hostile work environment, this often involves every single aspects of the work environment like conduct and also, comments, which the victim perceives as some sort of hostile or abusive and that even reasonable individuals will find them to be. There are several factors that play an important role in determining the hostility of an environment like the severity, the frequency and the duration of the said behaviors.
Then there goes the quid pro quo (this and that in English translation) which, in simple term, means that you have to give something if you want to receive something in return. You may say that quid pro quo is not as common as hostile work environment, this kind of sexual harassment in the workplace can cause great damage to the organization itself.,more than the first. It has been said that this sort of sexual harassment is something that happens when there is a demand for any favor that is sexual in exchange for something.
